Magatsuki Houten is a limited edition model from the Frame Arms series. Let’s see how it’s different from the previous knight and samurai, first with the unbox!

Sharp cover art of an attacking pose. Do you like loads of weapons? This guy does.

The box is a little bigger than a regular Master Grade.

The box side shows the price of 5600 JPY. Don’t forget you get a 20% discount from HobbyLink Japan!

The show off side of the box shows the new weapons. It’s looking wild already!

And also some new armor.

When you crack open the box, you’ll feel there’s a nice volume of plates, and of course, the typical (and well done) frame.

The building process doesn’t seem too complicated, as you can see lots of white real estate around some of the steps.

For leveling up, the official color guide is at the back of the manual.

Some final thoughts. Having built the previous 2 kits of the similar Durga I and Magatsuki, I’ve become a big fan of the design. This kit seems to be a powered version of Magatsuki, both by the name and the extra arms. I can’t wait to put it together and see how it looks with all 3 in the same photo. The experience of previous ones told me that this series has been good for both showing off and playing with. But with this one, will it stay together? Will the extra armor reduce the range of movement? Let’s find out in Part 2. Thanks for reading!

  1. I haven’t really built a frame arms kit in a really long time, and they do look pretty cool. What would be a good one to try to get back into building frame arms?

    • I’d go with a Stylet. Its one of the lesser priced Frame Arms but still looks pretty cool. Any of the critisms of Frame Arms are easily fixable. What I do with pieces that fall off is to just paint the pegs. They will still fit in place as long as you dont make the paint too think but will have the added friction to hold the pieces in place. Just make sure to let the paint dry of course.
