Some small update. Most of the work on this Project will be done during weekends so for now its planning phase.
The project goal is to make a old NG 1/144 up to a HG standard (well old HG standard) using most of the orginal design sketch. Well apart from the legs… Cause I don’t like theirs symmetry (I like the Kunio Okawara style and attention to detail…. But those shorts legs……).
So lets compare the sketch, Fliper kit and the donor kit (MS-06FS).
We can see that the orginal torso is no good. Its to wide and flat as a board (very common in all the old MSV kits). Its most likely ill just use the FS torso as a base and discard the orginal one. But I think that the upper torso would have to be withed a bit. Im still not sure if I go with 0.5 or 1mm pla plate on each side. If I decide on the 0.5 ill have to wait till next week for the order (only have 1mm and 0.1 on hand now) im gonna do a mock up later and check if 2x 1mm would look good or bad. If its bad ill go for 2×0.5. So ill start with customizing the head and arms.
Lets start with the head changes. Orginally the head is places between the two parts of the chest and holds due to the grove in the plastic. So its basically undetachable. So the plan is:
    1. Install the polycap in the bottom of the neck. There is no need for the neck movement so it wil be a normal polycap and not the ball joint type.
    2. Modify the sensor part to make it easier to paint – basic technique of cutting part of the socket that it can pop in after the painting.
    3. Rest of the changes will be decided after the initial assembly of the modified kit – most likely will have to redo some of the panel lines and maybe add some more or even some 0.1mm pla plate details.
Now onto the arms. With slimmer and longer torso the old arms look very out of place. So for the most part ill be using the MS-06FS hands. I’ll saw off the cameras from the shoulders and reattach them to the new one. I think they would look alright as they are (if they would appear to big ill shorten the middle part by about 1mm). Also due to the construction of arm putting the cameras would lower the shoulder mobility. I think I have two fixes to this issue. The first one is by shortening the cameras as I said before but ill do it only it they look bad on smaller shoulders. The second idea is to put a 1mm pla plate on the top of the shoulders. It should improve the movement by a few more degrees. Lastly I think ill somehow customize the orginall open hands, cause the Flipper doesn’t carry any weapons so it doesn’t need hands that were design to held weapons (that rectangle holes look bad at least for me). Well I wrote a wall of text so the rest of the planed modification will be written when I post the update to the work of the head and arms.
PS. Here is the inside of the orginal torso. 99% of old MSV kits use this system.
    • And since the kit is not a snap fit type. For now all parts are held up with masking tape ^^.

Back pack and head antenas are still on the runers cause i dont trust myself that i wont break or lose them.
