Alteisen Riese has been the main mecha in the Super Robot War series since the PS2 era, so it’s fitting that he’s the first kit in a brand new line, S.R.D.S!
A cool cover shot right out of the gate!
The box is a little bigger than SD Neo Zeong.
The side shows the price of 5200 JPY in the corner, which is even higher than some of the scaled kits. But you can get 20% off at HLJ.com!
Interesting gimmicks shown on the side of the box, including Revolving Bunker and Avalanche Claymore.
The other side of the box shows off the bonus items included with the first-run limited edition: the effect parts of Revolving Bunker, Plasma Horn, and Avalanche Claymore
When you crack open the box, the iconic red is ready!
The manual with the same art on the cover.
Though there’s a fair bit of wasted white space, It seems a bit more complicated than most kits.
Background information and the official color guide stars as the centerfold.
And here are two sheets with details about the bonus items.
Plates shown in alphabetical order.
2 pieces of horn parts are cut down for the bonus item. Would there be 2 sets in future?
Finally, a nice collection of bonus items.
Some final thoughts. As someone who’s always kept an eye on the Super Robot Wars line, and built a few scale kits from Kotobukiya, this is quite exciting as its the first time they put it in SD! Why not D-style? Because fans are asking for more! At the beginning, I thought perhaps it was a little pricy, but after seeing all the steps in the manual and the huge bunch of plates, instead it’s just exciting to get started. But here come the regular questions again: How well will it stay together? How will it look? How about the exciting poses from the game? Let’s find out in Part 2. Thanks for reading, everyone.
