Scopedog Turbo Custom (D-Style) by Kotobukiya (Available From HobbyLink Japan – HLJ.com)
The Scopedog Turbo Custom is here in D-style! Let’s take a look start to finish at this kit from Kotobukiya.
Sharp cover art straight out of the battlefield! How deformed does it look though compared to the regular style?
The box is almost the same size as the Bandai SD seafood combo.
You can make out the price of 3500 JPY in the bottom right corner. Don’t forget you get 20% discount at HLJ.com!
Some gimmicks shown on the side of the box, including a very short arm punch, turret lens, and so on.
When you crack open the box, these pretty colorful plates are waiting.
Sharp looking manual. You can see the relatively small amount of plates, and it doesn’t look like a hard build.
Highlight plates, with the colorful lenses, the already red shoulder, and an SD figure of Chirico.
Plates shown in alphabetical order.
So this is all you need to work with.
And with a nipper, it won’t take much time.
Front, side and back shots of the completed kit.
The arms can bend 90°, but the legs even worse off.
However, the turret, waist, and the lens can move in a surprisingly decent range.
Wide shot to focus on the huge variety of add-ons.
A shot from the cover… Actually looks pretty sharp I’d say!
And it can even transform into landing mode.
And you can swap off the head of Chirico if you want.
It’s smaller than Shin Getter-1 in the same D-style line.
And a little smaller than Bandai SD Unicorn Gundam. They make a cool combi though!
For some final thoughts, I think this is one of the best D-style I’ve built. You can see a lot of details carved on the armor, and in the meantime, you can pose it without much worry about it falling apart. Many people may want to do a proper paintjob, as there are clear areas that could use some color improvements. But Kotobukiya seems to have a good solution, probably inspired by Gunpla Build Fighters, so that if you do a few easy steps in the manual, you can make this kit look quite a bit better! Overall, the gimmicks are impressive, especially for a D-style kit, that it’s even better than the scale model of Scopedog from Wave. Lots of fun to build, pose, and show off!
“Where’s the 1/20 big guy from Bandai?”
“We’d have to zoom the camera out again. Too much trouble!”
